The following is the list of upcoming building and zoo grounds closures:
September 26 - October 9, 2022: African Savannah Building - the African Savannah Building will be closed for maintenance during this time.
October 17 - November 7, 2022: Rainforest Aviary - the Rainforest Aviary (located inside the Rainforest Building) will be closed for maintenance during this time. The rest of the Rainforest Building will remain open for viewing.
Help us protect the animals we love from the very contagious avian flu!
We are proactively taking steps to protect our birds from avian influenza which has been confirmed in Alberta. If you have contact with live chickens, geese, ducks or turkeys, please shower/bathe and change your shoes and clothes before visiting the zoo.
As of September 28, 2022, please note the following changes on zoo grounds:
The Rainforest Aviary is closed;
All other birds (Chilean flamingos, ostrich, crown cranes, peacocks, and pheasants) will be moved indoors and may not be viewable
The indoor habitat at Penguin Plunge will remain open for now with increased pathway disinfection, and everyone entering Penguin Plunge will step on a disinfecting mat in the entrance vestibule.
We are asking all visitors entering zoo grounds to notify Guest Relations or Security team members if they have been around live chickens, turkeys, ducks or geese in the past week. If you are wearing the same shoes and clothes as when you were around live chickens, ducks, turkeys or geese, you will not be permitted to enter zoo grounds and will be encouraged to return on another day. By limiting access to our beloved birds, we are helping to protect them from any contamination that may come from outside of the zoo.
Thank you for your continued support and patience during this time.
