Alpacas: Our alpacas will not be viewable on Friday, May 15th, during their routine health exams. Thank you for your understanding.

Savannah Plains: Our southern ostriches will not be viewable until Thursday, May 14th, while seeding takes place in Savannah Plains. During this time, our Hartmann’s mountain zebras will be viewable inside Savannah Crossing. Thank you for understanding.

Jihad Shibley Rocky Mountain Aviary: The Jihad Shibley Rocky Mountain Aviary is temporarily closed. Thank you for your understanding.

Penguin Plunge: Last entry to Penguin Plunge will be at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 2nd, and Saturday, May 16th, to accommodate set up for our Wild After Hours: Penguins (18+) event. Thank you for your understanding.

Prehistoric Park: Prehistoric Park reopens May 16th, 2026.

Animal Viewing Impacts:

PETRONAS Gateway to Asia Malayan Tapir Viewing: ‘Sempurna’ and her calf have daily access to the main indoor habitat from 10:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. They’ll also have access to their behind-the-scenes space and may choose to spend time there, especially when the calf is nursing, so viewing isn’t always guaranteed. Thank you for your understanding.

Exploration Asia
The Exploration Asia Redevelopment project is officially underway! While there are some viewing impacts in the area, you can still visit many of your favourite species.

  • Species Viewable: Bactrian camels, Komodo dragons, white-handed gibbons, Malayan tapirs, red-crowned cranes, Turkmenian markhors, Amur tigers, and Pallas’s cats.
  • Species Not Viewable: Snow leopards and red pandas have been relocated during construction, but don’t worry – these beloved species will be back in 2026.

West Gate Closure

Due to significant construction activities in and around Exploration Asia, the zoo’s West Gate will remain closed for the 2025 season and is expected to remain closed until at least 2028/2029. This necessary step supports the safe movement of visitors while we undertake exciting improvements to animal habitats and visitor experiences.

The ZooCare Adopt a Species program helps us provide exceptional care to over 4,000 animals that call the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo home. With your support and symbolic adoption, we feed our animals specially designed diets and create enrichment activities that encourage natural behaviours.

Animal Adoption Packages

$25 E-Adoption Package

We'll email you a personalized adoption certificate and biofact PDF. You'll be helping us save both paper and postage fees -- which means more of your donation goes toward caring for the animals! If you don't see the animal of your choice in the menu, please make a note in the comments.

$50 Feature Animal Adoption Package

You package includes a personalized adoption certificate for your chosen animal, a full-colour collector biofact collector card, photo magnet and window sticker.

$100 Feature Animal Adoption Package

In addition to your personalized adoption certificate for your chosen animal, a full-colour collector biofact collector card, photo magnet and window sticker you will receive a plush toy.

Once you select an animal, you will be able to see which packages are available for your selected animal in the Donation Level dropdown.

To purchase more than one package, please fill out the form, add to cart. From the cart, select "add another ZooCare donation".

If you are ordering ZooCare for delivery at one of the following events, please include the recipient’s name, the date you are attending, and an optional message for your guest. Enter this information in the “Is there anything else we should know about the gift?” section. Your adoption package will be waiting for you at your table when you arrive.

Please note: Orders must be placed by 5:00 PM on the Wednesday prior to your event to ensure they are ready in time. Orders placed after this deadline can be arranged for pick-up at the zoo on a later date.
